Decades ago, a friend from a women's art group asked me if I would like to fill in for her doing the face painting at a local music and light festival.  She ended up giving it up completely.

I loved it so much that I turned it into a business.

Over the years, everything has changed in the world of face painting.  When I first started, options for safe paints that could be used on the sensitive skin of children was quite limited.  Worse, what was available was often oil based and would stain skin terribly, not to mention smudge.  Thankfully my friend had sourced some face paint crayons that were vegetable wax based, and they dried quickly. They were not very vibrant and couldn't be layered over each other, but they could be wiped

off quite simply with a damp paper towel, which was appreciated by many a parent.

Now, there is a plethora of options for safe and vibrant colours to work with.  Everyone wants that wow factor, kids and parents alike.  We even have ever-growing communities through social media offering tips and tricks to get the best results from your supplies.  These also act as an endless source of ideas for designs... everyone wants to share what they've come up with! 

There's always something new or a new twist on an old favourite.  One of the ways I spend my happiest of hours is to

sit and come up with new designs of my own.  It's always so pleasing to see the faces of the kiddos when they select those designs and then see themselves in the mirror once completed --- priceless!  It's all for the kids.  Well, mostly.

I love it just as much as they do!
